In 1993, the Minnesota North Stars made a decision that devastated their long-time fans: the new (at the time) owner of the franchise, Norm Green, decided to move them away from the U.S.A’s capital of hockey and the home of the American Hockey Hall of Fame, down to Dallas, Texas. Conveniently for the team, their new location was one of the only things that had been changed much. The nickname of the state of Texas is ‘the Lone Star state’, and so the team name was changed to the Dallas Stars.Upon moving to Dallas, the team also decided to keep the colours, uniforms and primary logo that they used in their final two seasons in Minnesota. Essentially, all that changed on this logo was the name of the city of Dallas being added. The team’s uniforms have changed over time, but the logo, as well as the colours of forest green, gold and black, have been in use by the team throughout their existence in Dallas.

For the Stars’ shoulder logo, they decided to do something more creative: a white state of Texas outlined in green and black, with the Star from the primary logo and a ‘D’ where Dallas is. The right-hand point of the star is pointing towards the ‘D’. Stopped being used after the 2007 season because the primary logo is the shoulder logo on the home jersey.
When the team introduced new jersey styles for the 1999-2000 NHL season, this logo was introduced as the shoulder logo for the white jersey. The main reason behind this was that there was no longer a dark stripe going down the arms of the jersey, and the white shoulder logo would have been almost invisible on the new jersey.

In the 2003-04 season, the Stars introduced a new third jersey. Unlike other teams at the time that either wanted a retro look (such as Anaheim, and Minnesota’s new team the Wild) or were making slight adjustments (like Calgary and Florida), the Stars tried something more creative: this alternate jersey was mainly black, with green as the main secondary colour, with gold and red striping around the green areas. The logo is a star constellation in the shape of a bull head (supposedly Taurus), as the bull is the state symbol of Texas. This jersey only lasted for two seasons, and was ditched during the 2005-06 NHL season mainly because its sales were low.

At the start of the 2007 NHL season, it was announced that RBK was going to be re-doing every teams jersey. The Dallas Stars had one of the most drastic overhauls. Instead of an logo, now the simple word mark DALLAS was across the chest. The players number was then put below DALLAS.
